Eyüp Batal, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Istanbul Mineral Exporters’ Association (İMİB) and İMİB Board Members visited Mustafa Varank, Chairman of the Industry, Trade, Energy, Natural Resources, Information and Technology Commission and Alparslan Bayraktar, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources.
Eyüp Batal stated that they had the opportunity to convey the demands and suggestions of the mining sector in the visits they made after the meeting with Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz and said, ‘The main agenda item in our meetings was the items about the mining sector in the Medium Term Programme and the 12th Development Plan. As the mining sector, we had the opportunity to convey that we continue to work with all our strength for the economy of our country. In our meetings, we emphasised the importance of the added value that taking all necessary steps to accelerate production and exports will add to the country’s economy.’

The demands and expectations of the mining sector During the meetings, comprehensive evaluations were made about the sector. Eyüp Batal pointed out that the visits were very valuable for the future of the mining sector and said, ‘As İMİB, we continue our efforts to find solutions to the problems of our sector with determination. During these visits in line with the targets of our sector, we had the opportunity to convey our demands and expectations together with our board members at the highest authorities. In the meetings we held, the steps to be taken to pave the way for the sector under the title opened for the mining sector in the Medium Term Programme and the 12th Development Plan constituted the main agenda.’
STEPS TO BE TAKEN ADD VALUE
Eyüp Batal, who also made evaluations on other issues discussed during the meetings, said, ‘We had the opportunity to convey the issues of accelerating the permit processes, granting licence periods of more than 10 years, and thus not repeating the same permit processes when the renewal time comes. In addition, we explained the information about the basic problems of our sector to the Minister and the accompanying officials, such as the problems experienced due to the lack of clear concepts of forest area and olive grove in the law, and the non-receipt of licence and forest land permit fees from the sites requesting temporary holiday.’ Eyüp Batal said that they drew attention to the fact that there is a serious cost in Turkish Lira in the mining sector due to both input costs and public fees, and added, ‘We conveyed that we do not want to lose our competitiveness due to these situations. While such a process is taking place, we noted that the shares of competing countries in our export markets have also increased. We emphasised the importance of the added value that taking all necessary steps to accelerate production and exports will add to the country’s economy.’
